Dinner dialogue in Spanish:

Here’s an example of a couple’s dialogue before heading to dinner at a restaurant. (Original text by Lissette)

Luis: ¿Dónde quisieras ir a cenar hoy?

Where would you like to eat dinner today?

Ana: Yo quisiera ir al restaurante que nos recomendó tu primo. El dice que es excelente.

I would like to go to the restaurant that your cousin recommended. He says that it’s excellent.

Luis: Pues perfecto, vamos a ese. ¿Te recojo a las siete?

Perfect, then. Let’s go to that one. Should I pick you up at seven?

Ana: Sí. Estaré lista entonces.

Yes. I will be ready then.

Luis: Te envío un texto a las seis, antes de salir de mi casa. I’ll send you a text at six, before leaving my house.

En el restaurante:

Mozo: Buenas noches, ¿Tienen reservaciones?

Good evening, do you have reservations?

Luis: Sí, hice una reservación para dos, bajo Rodríguez.

Yes, I did reservation for two, under Rodríguez.

Mozo: Encontré su apellido. Síganme, por favor.

I found your last name. Follow me, please.

Ana: Muy bien. Very well.

Mozo: Quisieran una mesa cerca del bar o en el jardin? Would you like a table by the bar, or in the garden?

Ana: Pues me gustaría una mesa en el jardín. Well, I’d like a table in the garden.

Luis: A mí también. Me too.

En la mesa. At the table:

Mozo: Aquí tienen sus menús. Here are your menus.

Ana: Muchas gracias. Thank you.

Mozo: ¿Quisieran algo de beber antes de ordenar? Would you like something to drink before ordering?

Luis: Quisiera una cerveza. Y tú, Ana? I would like a beer. How about you, Ana?

Ana: Una copa de vino para mí, por favor. A glass of wine for me, please.

Mozo: Perfecto, volveré con sus bebidas en unos minutos. Perfect, I’ll return with your drinks in a few minutes.

Luis: ¿Miraste el menú ya? ¿Qué te apetece? Did you look at the menu already? What would you like?

Ana: Pues creo que voy a ordenar la lasagna vegetariana. ¿Y tú? Well, I think that I will order a vegetarian lasagna. And you?

Luis: Yo voy a ordenar un biftec con papas y vegetales. I’m going to order a steak with potatoes and vegetables.

Mozo: Aquí están sus bebidas. Y también pan, cortesía de la casa. Here are your drinks. Also, bread, courtesy of the house.

¿Listos para ordenar? Are you ready to order?

Luis: ¡Listos! We’re ready!

Luis (al mozo): Por favor, tráigame la cuenta. Please, bring me the bill.

Mozo: Se la traigo en un momento. I will bring it in just a moment.
